Who is Kate?
I paint using acrylics and canvas and recently began playing with clay, constructing utilitarian pieces that can be used in daily life. In keeping with the utilitarian theme, I'm excited to be making my first floor cloth, a hand painted floor covering made of heavy canvas.
Self portraits are something I didn't intend to paint. I didn't intend to paint people in general but i cannot help myself. Sometimes, something hits me when i look at someone's face and their eyes. A glimpse of an emotion. When i see it, i feel it and want to paint it. I love that. I also love painting my son. Working on a painting of him snow boarding provides me with hours of time, lingering in those memories.
My self portraits have become how i 'say' what i'm feeling to myself.
I am developing a mixed media art installation using paintings, photographs, collage, digital media and words to tell the stories of people in the Adirondacks living with various autoimmune diseases.
Paul Gauguin and Vincent van Gogh, the people that I love and the different places I have visited influence me. From the simplicity of a small, brightly painted town in Guatemala, to the decorative wrought iron found in New Orleans, my interest in regional architecture has been both flamed and nurtured by my love of travel.
Where have i been?
In addition to the places already mentioned on this page - some favorites places I've been to are Guatelmala, Montreal, St Augustine, and a Spanish castle that I discovered last year in Huntington Beach, South Carolina.
My love for Fr antilles and creole influences likely developed after I traveled to Martinique and Guadeloupe. making friends that I followed when they moved to St Denis, Fr, just outside of Paris.
The ocean at Myrtle Beach and Eighth Lake in the Adirondacks are two other locations that i enjoy.
where am i heading?
life is a trip..:)
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
-Mark Twain
